South Halls
South Halls is flanked by the Penn State campus on its northwestern side and downtown State College on the other. South Halls has male, female, and coed residence halls, several of which are reserved exclusively for first-year students. The majority of students share a double room with one roommate.

A few sororities and the LIFE House occupy space in South Halls. Most spaces in Atherton and Simmons Halls are reserved for Schreyer Honors College participants.
Redifer Commons is home to South Side Buffet (an all-you-care-to-eat dining commons), and South Food District, a food court featuring several á la carte eateries. Louie's (a convenience store and evening snack bar) is located upstairs. Simmons Dining Hall showcases an exclusive menu focused on healthier eating. Selections include six daily soups, lean meats, low fat cheeses, lighter desserts and a whole lot more. A 24-hour computer lab and indoor walkways distinguish South Halls from other areas. A Residential Computing (ResCom) Office is located in the commons area—and is staffed by students who are experienced in assisting with various computer issues.
Just a short distance from South Halls are the Penn State Bookstore, HUB-Robeson Center, and White Building, offering swimming, aerobics, and basketball.
