Partial Year Contracts

Partial-year contracts are available for students who are planning to graduate early or who will be away from campus for study abroad, student teaching, an internship, a co-op, or a leave of absence.

If you think you may need a partial-year contract, you must still apply for and accept a Housing Contract for the entire academic year. Once you notify us that you will be leaving the Penn State campus for an internship, co-op, etc.—or will be graduating early—your information will be confirmed and then the Housing Contract will be canceled for the semester that you will not be enrolled in classes at University Park. No cancellation fee will be charged.

Students Who May Be Away From Campus during the Fall Semester

If you have been offered and accepted an academic year Housing Contract but you will not be attending University Park for the fall semester because of study abroad, student teaching, an internship, a co-op, or a leave of absence, you must notify The Assignment Office as soon as you know that you will be away for the fall semester. The fall portion of your Housing Contract will be canceled after your registration status is confirmed with the Registrar. The spring semester portion of your Housing Contract will remain active and you will receive a spring assignment at the end of December.

Students Who May Be Away From Campus during the Spring Semester

If you have been offered and accepted an academic year Housing Contract but will not be attending University Park during the spring semester portion of the Housing Contract because of graduation, study abroad, student teaching, an internship, a co-op, or a leave of absence, you must indicate your plans for the spring semester on the survey that will be e-mailed to you in November. If you indicate that you will be away from campus for spring, the spring semester portion of your Housing Contract will be canceled after your registration status is confirmed with the Registrar.

Students Who Need Housing for Spring Semester Only

If you do not have a Housing Contract for the academic year and only need housing for the spring semester, you may add your name to the Supplemental Housing Waitlist in eLiving when it becomes available at noon on October 1. As it is determined that housing space is available, a Housing Contract will be offered through eLiving in early December. Room assignments will be posted by the end of December.
