Safety Tips for New Residents
Tuesday August 7, 2012So you're new to campus living...and we want to ensure that you know all of the tips to make sure your experience living on campus at Penn State is a safe one!
LOCK YOUR BEDROOM DOOR. We don't know how many ways we could say this...but you should lock your bedroom door anytime you leave, even if you are only going down the hall to visit a friend or to the restroom!
AVOID PIGGYBACKING: Each student must swipe their Penn State id+ Card when entering a residence hall building; do not let others enter behind you without them swiping their card.
ROOM KEY and ID CARD: Keep these in a safe place. If you misplace your room key, you can sign out a 2hr key at the commons desk. If you have lost your room key, your room will be re-cored for a nominal fee. You can deactivate your id+ Card online if you suspect it's lost. If you don't find it, visit the id+ Office to purchase a new one.
ESCORT YOUR GUESTS: Don't let your guests wander around the building without you. You are responsible for their behavior and actions.
WALKING AT NIGHT: Don't walk alone - use the buddy system!
Penn State University Police offers an escort service. They also provide a Campus Night Map that shows the best routes to use.Emergency Telephones are available across campus. PSUTXT: sign up for PSUTXT to receive the latest alerts.
