Housing Contract Process for Current Students

Current Penn State students interested in living on campus for the 2010-2011 academic year must use eLiving to submit a Contract Request and accept a Contract Offer. On-campus housing is not guaranteed for current students. First-year students have a separate Housing Contract process.

Eligibility Guidelines
Students who are currently living on campus or have requested a change of campus to University Park from another Penn State campus are eligible to request a Housing Contract for University Park. Off-campus students at University Park may add their names to the Waitlist beginning February 5, 2010.

Reserved Groups
Certain groups, such as sororities and those in Special Living Options, are considered a reserved group, and may have different eligibility requirements, contract process and timeline to follow. Students who are associated with a reserved group are responsible for following the process identified and meeting deadlines associated with that reserved group.

Partial-Year Contracts
Partial-year contracts are available for students who are planning to graduate early or who will be away from campus for study abroad, student teaching, an internship, a co-op, or a leave of absence.

If you think you may need a partial-year contract, you must still apply for and accept a Housing Contract for the entire academic year. Once you notify us that you will be leaving the Penn State campus for an internship, co-op, etc.—or will be graduating early—we will cancel your contract for the semester you will not be enrolled in classes at University Park. No cancellation fee will be charged.

Students Who May Be Away From Campus during the Spring Semester
If you have been offered an academic year contract but may not be attending University Park during the spring portion of the contract because of graduation, study abroad, student teaching, an internship, a co-op, or a leave of absence, you can still accept your Contract Offer. You must then indicate your plans for the spring semester on the survey that will be e-mailed to you in November. If you indicate that you will be away from campus for spring, we will cancel the spring portion of your contract after we confirm your registration with the Registrar.

Students Who May Be Away From Campus during the Fall Semester

If you have been offered an academic year contract but you may not be attending University Park for the fall portion of the contract period because of study abroad, student teaching, an internship, a co-op, or a leave of absence, you can still accept your Contract Offer. However, you must notify The Assignment Office for Campus Residences at assignmentoffice@psu.edu as soon as you know that you will be away in the fall so that we can cancel your fall contract. If you will be returning in the spring, the spring portion of your contract will remain active and you will receive a spring assignment at the end of December.

If you do not have a contract for the academic year and only need housing for the spring semester, please e-mail your request to the Assignment Office at assignmentoffice@psu.edu in early October. If housing is available, we will offer you a contract through the eLiving Housing Contract System in early December. If housing is not available, we will add your name to the spring semester Waitlist.

Transgender, Gender Variant or Other Gendered:
Penn State is committed to assisting all individuals in identifying residence hall space that is welcoming. If you identify as transgender, gender variant or other gendered, please contact one of the staff identified below. We are very interested in discussing any questions you may have about on-campus housing. First year students seeking this assistance should contact us as soon as they accept their offer of admission. Change of Campus and Transfer students should contact us after accepting a housing contract to discuss the options that might be available and room assignment preferences.

It is important to call to discuss options prior to March 1 for upper class students, or May 15 for first year students, when the widest range of options are still available. We look forward to welcoming you to Penn State.
