With Pattee Library and Paterno Library to the east and the Recreation Building (Rec Hall) to the west, the West Halls residence area is just a short walk away from many of Penn State’s learning and sports facilities. Waring Commons is home to a computer lab, a classroom, Waring Square food court, the West Wing (á la carte sandwiches, subs, salads, sushi, and desserts), and a study lounge. Also located in Waring Commons is Moxie, featuring a convenience store and coffee bar, an electronics lounge (complete with overstuffed couches and chairs, Internet and gaming stations, a TV, and study tables), and an outdoor patio/cafe. A Residential Computing (ResCom) Office is located in the commons area—and is staffed by students who are experienced in assisting with various computer issues.
In addition, the famous Nittany Lion Shrine is in a wooded area within view of the halls. Otto’s Cafe, located in Kern Graduate Building, is within a block, and Rec Hall is also nearby.
