QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT

1. Must be a student at Penn State with full-time status (12 credits minimum). If you fall below full-time status, you MUST inform us immediately. Graduate students must be taking 9 credits and cannot be on an assistantship.

2. Any prior work at a Penn State Housing and Food Services unit (i.e., Union Street, dining commons, Otto’s Café, snack bars, Housing, Commonwealth College campuses, etc.) must have ended with proper notice and in good standing.

Students eligible for work-study are not eligible for employment at Union Street, unless the work-study grant is declined.

3. Students under 18 years of age will need working papers.

4. In compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, any employee hired on or after June 1, 1987 must provide a document or documents that establish identity and employment eligibility before he or she can start working. A complete list of acceptable documents is available upon request.

5. Before they begin working, students must provide either: 1) a valid driver’s license or identification card, AND an original Social Security card; or 2) a valid passport.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

International students must have a working visa. Such students must contact the International Affairs Office in 422 Boucke Building prior to employment to fill out the proper paperwork.

STUDENTS EMPLOYED BY ANOTHER DEPARTMENT

Students who are working more then one University job must work no more then a combined total of 20 hours per week between the two jobs.
